SPOTLIGHT ARTIST: 100 Proof… Presenting: PointAsh!

December 31, 2009

Hey Fellow Music Lovers..

It has been a minute since I have hit you with some great reviews from some great artist. The wait is over and I AM BACK!

Based out of Gary, IN this hot and new artist in on the move for Christ. This artist has a sound that is a mix between the north and the south. He’s a combination of  a northern feel with a Southern flare!

Dedicated to living the Christ driven life, PointAsh remains committed to serving God and bringing 100 Proof Hip Hop with a Christ twist to the masses.

“PointAsh”‘s name is derived from the word Point, which is a direction attention to or indicate the presence or position of something.  Also, the Word Ash, a derivative of the word Asher, which is the name of one of the 12 tribes of Israel meaning “Happy”. So all together is means someone who is excited about directing anyone to the True King and Master of the Universe, Jesus Christ ( nice little history lesson for you guys :))

Indeed his music takes each listener into a place where they can evaluate and culivate their relationships with Christ as well as placing each listener in remembrance of why we do what we do for Christ. It’s a lifestyle. PointAsh’s music is Lifestyle Music!

With songs such as, 100 Proof Christ, highlighting PointAsh’s mission of directing listeners to Chirst, promoting listeners being “high off of Christ”. As he kindly puts it, ” I know they not going to like this”, but indeed through the other tracks on his cd, he kindly directs listeners into why they MUST understand where he is coming from! PointAsh gives glory to God with song ” All Hail 2 the Kang”, speaking of the characteristics and idenity of Christ.

The album entitled ” Sight Beyond Sight” features one of my favorites on the album ” My L.O.V.E.”, which is a love song about his love relationship with the Father and the purpose of  the Father’s love for us.

If you will be at all the Stellar Award events, make sure you make it to the Stellar After Party “Urban Cafe Access Granted” hosted by Rare Entertainment’s Carlos Hale. Click the flyer below for more information! Point Ash will be rippin he mic!

August 25, 2009
Hey all you faithful readers!! This will be a double feature! Not only will be review the Canton Jones concert from Sunday 8.23 but it will also feature the release of CaJo and the fam’s latest cd entitled ” Kingdom Business II”.
This Sunday was action packed with a full line up of local artist setting the stage for Canton at DWO’s The Vault.
Detroit’s Bro. Dre mcee’d the event has everyone on their feet ( literally) all night long. Even had an entourage of youth and young adults on the stage!
Canton hit the stage and the fans went crazy! It was great to see him back in Detroit, indeed to long of a wait…
He ministered his like ” Holy Ghost Girl”, ” Love” and new hits such as “G.O.D.”, “One Mic.. ” from his newly release album “Kingdom Business II.
I even got an opportunity to kick up with him for a minute! Missed my big bro!
Overall, Great Event MustardSeed Generation!
Now on to the review!
In my all honest opinion, I truly believe that this cd should have released at the beginning of the summer. YES, you have guessed it.. ITS A BANGER!!!
Songs like “Echo”, “Swaggin” and  “5 Seconds” will play on REPEAT on  your ipod or stereo! The production quality on this cd is bananas..This cd is giving mainstream a run for their money, indeed its time!
CaJo placed a spin on the classic “Great Things”, which is guarnteed to get every person young or old up and dancing, praising God for the great things he has done for them.
Canton Jones song entitled ” Top Model” is what I like to call a secequal to ” Holy Ghost Girl”. The song expresses how God loves and sees us as his Top Models and how even the fellas see the Women of God as true Top Models. This song really expresses the things that God sees in each and every woman but from the personal view of the Man. GREAT STUFF!!!
I dont want to spoil the cd for those of you who haven’t gotten it yet.. its most definetely a BANGER! Please GO COP IT!

Bold Right Life… What life are you living?

Dr. Dell Rocking The Mic... Wednesday Night at BRL

This past week has been really hectic for me, but in a good way. I have had the opportunity to attend the Bold Right Life Conference at Greater Emmanuel Instiutional Church of God In Christ hosted by none other than Detroit’s own Kierra Kiki Sheard.

The conference featured some of gospel Music greats, Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Holy Hip Hop Artist Mr. Dell and Tye Tribett. Along with Prophetess Janice  Floyd and Pastor Jonathon Miller.

This week I was only able to attend two nights the Saturday night concert featuring Detroit’s own, Kierrra “KiKi” Sheard , 21:03, J Moss,  R&B and Jazz Diva Lalah Hathaway and Gospel Music great, Donald Lawrence.

The first night started off with Bishop Hezekiah Walker as he ministered on having a Cry in your spirit and not holding in your Cry but letting it out. Mr. Dell minister the same night, hyping the youth to live on fire for God. Had everyone doing

The Third Night was filled with worship as Min. Tye Tribett hit the hearts of the people with a life changing sermon, encouraging attendees to take a stand and GET SET in the things of God. Don’t weaver, let others detour you away, GET SET.  Tye even amazed us as he handed the microphone back Kierra, hopped on the organ and rocked it out with the band. The night ended with a shed featuring Tye and the conference band.

Youth were surrounded around the shed with camera phones tapping this monumental moment in their lives!

Saturday nights conference was indeed great! Although it started later than expected, God’s presence was sure on time. With Praise and worship laid by Detroit’s own Shana Wilson ( PLEASE GO AND GET HER CD.. REVIEW TO COME) singing songs like my personal favorite ” Press In His Presence”, with opening acts from the Detroit as well as Chicago area. PAJAM’s newly signed hip hop artist, Chris Clark took the stage with “Walk on Water” ( great to see you again little bro), 21:03 hit the stage with their hits ” You” and my fav. “Cover Me” with group member Evan leading the congregation into worship.

Just when you thought the PAJAM camp was through, J MOSS hit the stage with peep this, Karen and KiKi on backgrounds! Can we say a true treat! It in deed was a family affair! J Moss sang songs from his cd that will be released on 8.25.09 “Just James”, “Restored” as he told his personal restoration testimony & many others.

Just when you thought the night was whining down, Lalah Hathaway hit the stage requesting to perform with no shoes on. She has been singing barefeet for 20 years now! WOW! that is a long time! She talked to the congregation about how she knows singing is her calling and this was the are a of ministry God had call her to do, in her own way.  Now readers, this does not mean she is going Gospel.  She sang a song written by Donald Lawrence that was truly a gospel track and then did a lil improv with the band singing “Summertime”.

Congregants stood all around the sanctuary. Truly an experience for all!

Kierra took the stage after Lalah jokingly asking her father if she could take her shoes off too. Maybe she can sing just like Lalah! The crowd laughed. She  sang “Wave Your Banner”, “Love Like Crazy” and tear jerker ” Invisble” with the crowds participation.

The BRL choir ended it out singing background vocals for ” Invisible” as well as singing with Donald Lawrence on ” The Law of Confession” and “Back to Eden”.

Overall , The BRL experience had everyone hype and it truly was a treat! Thanks Kierra for another great and anointed conference. Many lives were set free!

The First Lady of FP: Shereena Osai

August 13, 2009

For the month of August , I had the opportunity to interview the first lady of Friendship Productions, Mrs. Shereena Osai!

Tap into the second edition of the FP Insider: testiphy

T.Marie: Tell us a little about Shereena Osai

Shereena: Shereena Osai is a complex person with many gifts and talents she is trying to use to glorify God. I am at a very unique place in life, God is calling me to a higher level in ALL areas of life, so I am under major construction right now.
T.Marie: What is your role at FP?
Shereena: I am the Vice President of Friendship Productions, I also like to call myself the Administrative Coordinator. I help Esosa come up with event concepts, and I help with administrative tasks and organization. I am also the Evangelism Coordinator.
T.Marie: What’s your most memorable FP moment?

Shereena: My most memorable FP moment was at the Don’t Waste Your Life concert, June 13, 2009. Lecrae was on stage ministering and the presence of God was so strong in the palce. I was in a deep place of worship. I opened my eyes and I saw 1500 people with their arms raised, giving praise to God. And at that moment I saw how far God has brought FP, and how far we have yet to go, and I began to weep for God’s faithfulness to us is so true.

T.Marie: How long have you been serving with FP?

Shereena: I have been serving with FP for about two and a half years.
T.Marie:  If you could relive any FP moment what would it be?

Shereena: The first Canton Jones concert way back in 2005! That was my first fp concert. I had just finished my sophomore year at Western Michigan University and my friends and I drove from Kalamazoo to Detroit for the event. We had such a good time! I was so impressed with the young people I saw going forth in their callings. Esosa as the promoter and DJ, Joshua Generation Dancing, Rock Nation moving bolding in music under the anointing…it was amazing to me. It inspired me to pursue the things God was calling me to, and really showed me that I did not have to wait until I was thirty to move in my calling.
T.Marie : You’re a stylist right, tell us more about your passion.

Shereena: My passion is to help others express their inner beauty on the outside as well. I see so many people who do not realize how beautiful they are. Many people suffer from low self esteem, and have been abused. People hide behind the “I don’t care” attitude, because they don’t think they are beautiful or attractive (men and women). But we are made in the image of God, and if you read scriptures that descirbe heaven and how God looks you will see that God is beautiful and is surrounded by beautiful things. So I just want to help show people the beauty they already have, and help them present themselves accordingly.
T.Marie: Tell the readers about tes-ti-phy.
Shereena: tes-ti-phy is the clothing line God gave me. The fashion industry is very dark and Godless. As a fashion design student, I struggled with the idea of working in such a dark industry, and I was not sure how I could live a holy life in the industry. So God gave me the idea for tes-ti-phy in 2005. And the entire purpose is to demonstrate that even fashion must bow down and glorify God. I praise God for my father, Hilton Kelley, who funded the entire start up of the business.. The web site www.tes-ti-phy.com is now finished so readers can check it out!
IMG_2767
What’s your heart’s desire as the Head woman behind FP?

Shereena: As the head woman of FP I just want God to be glorified, I  want us to build the ministry God designed and cause people to respond to the love of God through our labor. Obedience to God equals success, and Godly success leads to eternal rewards, and our focus is on eternity.

A Game.. Developing Your Plan – Even Your Bio Speaks!

August 12, 2009

As an upcoming professional in the Christian and Gospel music industry, I figured it would be great if I started to write regarding developing your plan/brand as an artist or company.

I have had the opportunity to go various events with some of the Gospel Music greats, nationally known as well as independent artist. For every artist in the Gospel music industry or not, having a well put together bio, press kit as well as a photos, etc. helps develop the brand of any artist.

It will be the first thing that someone looks at and the last thing someone refers to for information about you! I believe that some artists within the Gospel/Christian industry, we lose sight of this. Some place their focus on the ministry performance, or even wardrobe but lose sight of after all the glits, people’s lives being changed by your ministry and even the glamour of the event, someone is going to refer back to your information.

Step 1. Presentation is everything! Your tracks might be sweet,  your runs might be tight, but if your bio, photos, etc aren’t on their “A-Game” even those things mean NOTHING.

Remember that if you want coverage by magazines, press, etc. you will have to give them something to work with.

Not just looking at it from the natural standpoint, but take it from the spiritual standpoint. We are made in his likeness and image. He has empowered us to walk in excellence in every area of our lives, including the call that he has placed on our lives. When we walk into the world, outside the four walls of our churches, we have to bring our A Game and let everyone know of the God we serve. We are a pure representation of him and this includes in business.

Before you send out that bio, photo, etc. consult with your manager, public relations professional etc. God provides individuals with wisdom in these areas to help take your ministry to the next level. Let them operate in their call!

If you are an independent artist, get with a public relations professional. Some professionals provide free consultations or will direct you in right path to help take your ministry/business, etc. to the next level.

So believe you send… consult! This is T.Marie Signing off.. just me
